Ireland
In 2004, Brase left his homeland Slovakia to move to Ireland. He was searching for a different environment for more inspiration. He settled in the city of Cork. He faced the inner struggle and contradictions of Ireland. He observed the city and the people who lived there. He used these observations in his creative work.
Take for example the older man that appears several times in the work of Brase. The artist followed the man for a period of more than three years and saw the contradictions of the country through his eyes. These contradictions one would not expect in a Western country and Brase tried to pay attention to this fact in his work. He took a photograph of the old man when he was standing in front of a bank, when he was walking in an expansive shopping street or sitting on a bench in a park. In every situation the man is dressed in the same shabby clothes. Everything about the man stands for the battles and the religious struggle of the Irish people.
The Netherlands
Besides Ireland, Brase visits many European countries, including the Netherlands. Like Ireland, the Netherlands stole his heart and that results in new, inspiring work!
