Bastiaan Kijzers

Kijzers was born in 1962 in Delft (The Netherlands). Ever since he was a child, he was fascinated by nature. He started drawing the birds and plants and later he became a biologist. After years of study he realised research couldn’t give him what he was looking for. Therefor Kijzers focused on his creativity, especially photography. He learned to tell his story through images. The artist has developed a visual language which can express what he experiences in nature.

A Discovery

Kijzers goes out to explore specific experiences in nature that he would like to share in his artwork. His journey takes place on construction sites, dune paths, parks and landscaping’s. He finds his subjects everywhere, in the city, botanical gardens and even in the zoo. Everywhere Kijzers comes, he discovers a piece of nature, fantastic landscapes of only a few centimetres.

Imagery

The artist shows in his photographs what he experiences in nature. Kijzers achieves this by taking several pictures of the same place. He later adds these pictures together to create an unique image. The photo’s do not form one fluent image, because of the time in between the different pictures and the slight movements of the camera. However, from a distance it looks like one image, but as the viewer gets closer, it becomes clear that it consists of individual images. It’s the little moments in between time and space.
